Here Are Our Latest Reports
The Windrush Justice Inquiry Report, developed in collaboration with Birthmark of Africa, the Windrush Justice Clinic, its partner universities, including the University of Westminster, London South Bank University, University of Essex, and Queen Mary University of London, alongside a range of key stakeholders, outlines a strategic framework for an independent, community-led inquiry into the systemic injustices experienced by the Windrush generation and their descendants. The report presents a critical analysis of the Windrush Compensation Scheme, highlighting its structural shortcomings and inaccessibility, and calls for a transparent, trauma-informed process rooted in accountability and shaped by the lived experiences of those directly affected.

This forthcoming report (2025-2026) and accompanying event will critically examine the enduring legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in Britain, addressing whether descendants of enslaved Africans should receive reparations and exploring the question of whether the British public should bear responsibility for funding such reparations.

Drawing on findings from our comprehensive questionnaire and research, the report will analyse both historical and contemporary impacts of the slave trade. It will consider how the profits and structures established during the era of slavery have shaped modern Britain, economically, socially, and culturally, and how these legacies continue to manifest in persistent racial inequalities and debates over reparatory justice.

The report will propose effective frameworks and solutions for reparations within the context of international law, informed by recent research and public discourse. It will also address the challenges and responsibilities faced by institutions and the wider public in acknowledging and responding to Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade.

Through this study, Birthmark of Africa aims to deepen public understanding, foster informed dialogue, and contribute to the development of equitable and legally grounded approaches to reparatory justice in Britain.

FORTHCOMING REPORT: When Black Women Speak
This forthcoming report (2025-2026) and accompanying event will examine the contemporary biases faced by Black women across a range of life areas, exploring their historical origins and deeply entrenched legacies. It aims to highlight effective tools and strategies to confront and overcome these challenges.
Key areas of focus include education, career progression, migration, travel, health and wellbeing, social mobility, and intergenerational mobility. The discussion will also address intersectionality, particularly how sexism and racism intersect to shape the lived experiences of Black women. Through this exploration, the report seeks to empower voices, raise awareness, and promote practical solutions for equity and justice.
