BIRTHMARK OF AFRICA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME 
APPLICATION ROUND FOR YEAR 2025

 

Birthmark of Africa Fellowship programme is a prestigious initiative which offers exceptional researchers the opportunity to gain research experience within the field of human rights and climate change. Fellows will assist the President of Birthmark of Africa and other experience researchers upon Birthmark of Africa projects, programmes and reports.

Fellows can look forward to acquiring firsthand, high-level exposure and experience of researching Human Rights and Climate Change issues within the discipline areas of Human and Social Sciences, Humanities, Media and Film Studies. 

​

HOW THE PROGRAMME WORKS

​

Each year Birthmark of Africa offers two places upon the Birthmark of Africa Fellowship Programme. The programme will last for a duration of two months and will be unpaid therefore deemed as a voluntary position. Fellows will work under the direct guidance and supervision of the President of Birthmark of Africa. Fellows can expect to be involved in a wide range of high impact projects, in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Candidates are also required to work in a collegial and cooperative manner with other colleague Fellows and team members of Birthmark of Africa.

CORE DUTIES

​

  • To provide research support which will aid in decision-making at the highest levels at Birthmark of Africa.

​​

  • Help in coordinating and monitoring the progress of projects at Birthmark of Africa, in a timely and efficient manner.

​

 

TASKS INVOLVED

 

  • Gathering and analysing data.

​​

  • Researching information to support research projects.

​​

  • Designing research events.

​​

  • Delivering oral and written analysis of opinions and recommendations to Birthmark of Africa.

 

  • Participating in meetings, conference calls and briefing sessions as required.

​​

  • Delivering presentations at a Birthmark of Africa event. 

 

Although assignments may vary among Fellows, they will have the shared experience of hard work, rigorous discussion and impactful contribution to Birthmark of Africa.

​

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

 

  • At least an undergraduate degree.

 

  • Evidence of leadership skills and achievements.

 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

  • Excellent research and organisational skills.

 

  • Evidence of a commitment to human rights or climate change and evidence of the ability to work as part of a team.

​​

  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to take the initiative and work to meet deadlines.

 

  • Capacity for quick learning and willingness to work hard and long hours.

 

  • At least one year work experience. 

​
